According to literature data, the centre of the origin of freshwater crayfish is Eurasia, where their fossil ancestors have been found. However, the latest discoveries of fossils of crayfish ancestors in America, as well as the small number of crayfish species in Eurasia (15) and their great number in America (326) give good reasons to assume that America was the centre of crayfish spreading. From there, in the Mesozoic era freshwater crayfish moved into Eurasia through the Beringian land. To prove this hypothesis, correct subsequent investigations are required.
