The geography of commercial crayfish ponds in south Louisiana
Published Online:
Abstract
Three types of commercially managed crayfish ponds are mapped, and the patterns of location are explained in terms of relevant cultural factors and elements of the physical environment. The swamp and open types of ponds are generally located on natural-levee backlands of bayous and rivers of French-speaking south Louisiana. The rice field type of pond is found on the rice-producing prairies of southwestern Louisiana.
