Published Online: 6/1/2020
Abstract
The marron, Cherax tenuimanus, is native to southwestern Australia, but marron cultivation efforts have been initiated in the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). This species has been introduced into four provinces: Taiwan, Hubei, Guangdong and Zhejiang. It was first brought to the PRC in 1983. Since then, its habits, molting patterns, growth, and breeding have been investigated. In 1988, marron were successfully bred in the laboratory and 69 young marron were produced. The important steps used to accomplish this were acclimation to the laboratory environment, use of suitable foods, and induction of spawning by manipulating environmental factors.
