Abstract
1997 marked the 25th Anniversary of the first international meeting of astacologists held in Hinterthal, Austria in 1972. To commemorate this event Past-President David Holdich gave a talk on the IAA’s history at the 12th Symposium in Augsburg. This is being expanded to include more details and photographs and is being serialised in Crayfish NEWS. However, it was decided that the first part of the historical review, which is a summary, should also be reproduced in Freshwater Crayfish 12.
