Growth and size structure of narrow-clawed crayfish Astacus leptodactylus Esch. in its eastern area
Published Online:
Abstract
Data on growth of narrow-clawed crayfish Astacus leptodactylus from different habitats of its eastern range in Belarus were analysed. Average body length ranged from 86.3 to 116.4 mm depending on habitat. The biggest individuals were found in eutrophic waters in the south of Belarus. The average number of individuals caught per trap and day was 0.5. During the growth period of the first year of life in an experimental pond in Belarus juveniles of narrow-clawed crayfish reached a mean total length of 31 ± 3.0 mm and a mean weight of 856.1 ± 253.2 mg which corresponds to only half of the values obtainable in Southern Russia.
